Here’s a little inteview I gave to the guys from Out Of Line for their latest issue of Electrostorm Magazine! Below are the links to the original publication with the German translation.
Where and when did you form Alpha Point?
Alpha Point is the reincarnation of my previous Moscow-based project Future Positive where I was the frontman and main composer. It was disbanded in 2008 as I moved back to Chisinau, Moldova. In summer 2009 I decided to bring it back to life. The old name didn’t go well with the new tracks, so I changed it to Alpha Point.
What inspired the band name?
Actually, it all started with the word ‘alpha’ which is sort of a very powerfull word, meaning both something strong and something that goes ahead of others. The whole word combination stands for ‘beginning’, like a point of new beginning for everything, like a new beginning for me, and so on. And of course, I really like the way it sounds – it’s quite futuristic and fits well with my music.
Who is the current line up?
The current line-up is just me. Everything is my sole responsibility. I’m planning to expand my live line up at some point with a guitarist and a keyboarder, at least.
How would you describe your sound?
Well, that’s always a hard thing to label your own music. I would say it’s a sort of a crossover between futurepop and trance with some hard guitars mixed in. Catchy, melodic, refreshing and quite personal.
How common is the type of music you play in your country? Is there a big scene?
Speaking of Moldova, the scene for this type of music is almost non-existent here. I don’t know of any other Moldavian synthpop / futurepop bands. A couple of industrial metal bands – that’s the best you can get. This is why I rarely play live in my city – once a year or so. Usually I play concerts in Ukraine or Russia – the scene is much more developed there and there are some really good bands to play with, not to mention several festivals that take place in these countries during the year.
How do you feel about winning the contest?
I feel very excited! Of course, I kept my fingers crossed hoping for the best, but still it was like out of the blue when I was told I had won the contest. It makes me very motivated to continue writing new songs, ‘cos such great feedback both from the readers of Sonic Seducer and industry professionals proves it’s worth it!
